Acne Skin Care

Acne is a skin problem that is very widespread. In fact, statistics show that 75% of all people will at some point in their lives deal with a form of acne. While this is a skin problem that is most commonly identified with teenagers and young adults, there are many adults that also have to deal with acne as well. In order to better understand and treat acne, it is first of all important to understand what acne actually is.

The term acne actually includes clogged pores, pimples, and even cysts. As a general rule, acne affects the face, neck, back, shoulders, and chest, but can affect other pares of the body as well. Acne forms as a result of an overproduction of sebum that along with dead skin cells clogs up pores, and bacteria development in those pores can lead to what is known as a pimple. While acne can be very difficult to deal with, there are methods of acne skin care that can help people effectively treat and prevent acne.

Acne Errors
First of all, it is important to take a look at acne skin care errors that are commonly made so you can avoid them. One error that many people commonly make is to constantly wash their skin. While cleansing the skin is a great method of acne skin care, over cleansing and washing of the skin can actually lead to more irritation of the skin and can make acne worse. Picking or popping pimples is another bad error, since this can lead to scarring as a result. You should also be careful not to scrub your skin or use abrasives on it. While there are a variety of treatments that use abrasive scrubbers as a way to supposedly “treat” acne, they can actually be very damaging and act as an irritant to your skin. Another common error that many people fall into is getting too much sun. While some people may believe that getting a lot of sun can aid in acne skin care, the opposite is actually true. The sun can cause further damage to your skin, so it is important to limit the time that you spend out in the sun.

Proper Acne Treatment
Now that you know about some of the “don’ts” of acne treatment, it is important that you also understand how to properly treat acne. One important thing to do each day is to wash your face twice. Usually washing when you get up and before you go to bed is a great idea. Use an antibacterial soap that will be gentle on your skin, and be sure to wash your face gently. Another great method of acne skin care is to drink at least eight glasses of water each and every day. Water helps to cleanse the skin and purify the body, so keeping your water intake high can help your skin. You can also use over the counter skin products that contain benzyl peroxide or salicylic acid on your skin to help treat your acne as well.
